THE AUTHOR
Formerly an international construction cost and project manager of 50 years, Grandfather Alan Chamberlain is a hobbyist and occasional dry-stone Waller and storyteller based in Leicestershire, England. He was awarded the Craftsman Certificate of Qualification Level 1 in Dry Stone Walling in September 2024.
A keen advocate in training and promotion of careers in rural crafts and education for future generations, Alan developed the concept of a Dry Stone Wall family of characters. These characters will educate, engage and inspire children worldwide of all ages to appreciate the importance of our heritage, our environment, building with durable, locally sourced and sustainable materials, and creating environmental wildlife and livestock sanctuaries.
Our Story and Mission
Walter the Waller was born from a love of countryside tales and a desire to nurture values like compassion, courage, and curiosity in young readers. Set inside a drystone wall in The East Midlands, our characters embark on adventures that combine education with gentle storytelling. We aim to create a safe, joyful reading experience that helps children grow emotionally and intellectually.
